Intensely personal, there is no right or wrong way to grief.

The grief from loss can be complicated or traumatic, leading one to watch with detachment a world that has come to a standstill.

  • Self-reproach for feeling too much or too little sadness
  • Gratitude that a loved one is no longer suffering
  • Relief that our burden of care for a sick family member is over
  • Guilt and shame from feeling relief or gratitude.

How can Therapy help with Grief & Loss

Counseling grief is not about suppressing pain or forgetting what has happened.

Rather the process of counselling allows the individual to experience and work through their grief and pain by verbalising their thoughts and feelings.

Grieving takes time, time for a person to accept the reality of a loss and for the pain to subside. Eventually, these feelings may come to pass, or perhaps be sufficiently diminished, even if we never get over them completely.
