Counseling and psychotherapy in a structured and supportive environment offer effective ways to address the distressing symptoms of OCD.  We aim to empower individuals to regain control over their lives, reduce anxiety, and improve emotional well-being.

How can Therapy help with OCD

Counselling can help you understand your thought processes, feelings, and behaviors related to OCD and learn practical skills on how to cope with OCD. Therapy helps to free you from your compulsions by helping you become less sensitive to them. Evidence-based therapy like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), can be highly effective in helping individuals manage OCD.

What is OCD

OCD is condition characterized by persistent intrusive, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) aimed at reducing anxiety or preventing a dreaded event.

These obsessions and compulsions can get in the way of daily activities and cause a lot of distress.

Symptoms of OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder usually includes both obsessions and compulsions. But it’s also possible to have only obsession symptoms or only compulsion symptoms.

  • Obsessions are intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that repeatedly enter a person’s mind
  • These thoughts can be irrational
  • Common obsessions include fears of contamination, worries about harm coming to oneself or others, a need for symmetry or order, or intrusive taboo thoughts.
  • Compulsions are repetitive behaviors or mental acts that individuals feel driven to perform usually in response to their obsessve thoughts.
  • These behaviors are aimed at reducing the anxiety or distress caused by the obsessions, or preventing a feared outcome.
  • Compulsions are often excessive, time-consuming.
  • Examples of compulsions include excessive hand washing, checking locks multiple times, counting or repeating certain words, or arranging objects in a specific order.
